All of us have a motivation (or motivations) for pursuing our art. Some of these are socially approved (making ‘art’ or ‘beauty’) and others aren’t (hatred, revenge). Knowing that we have a motivation that isn’t socially approved can cause shame, and shame blocks our work.
Today, I invite you to think about your motivation(s) with an eye towards acceptance, no matter what the motivation is. You’re writing for revenge? Aim that pen at the jugular. You’re quilting competitively? You go ahead and focus on being the gold medalist.
It’s just energy. We can use that energy to shame ourselves & block our work. That benefits no one. Or, we can harness that energy & make it work for us.

A reminder: don’t forget to do your smallest action today. You are becoming a person who engages creativity every day, just like you eat & drink every day.
