Challenge #10

We’ve been exploring ways in which we are creative every day (I hope you are still noticing that!). And we all have specific creative projects we want to work on. While I love creating new recipes, my work is writing.

Today, name the work (what is your daimon nudging you towards?). It doesn’t have to be a project (ex: knit a shawl), it can be the general activity (knitting, writing, singing).

Once you’ve identified the project, think of the absolute smallest thing you can do that is related to that project. If it’s writing, maybe that is holding a pen, rifling the pages of your notebook, touching a keyboard. If it’s singing, maybe it’s taking a preparatory breath or singing one note. If it’s fabric work, maybe it’s touching fabric or your tools.

Once you’ve identified the absolute smallest thing you can do, commit to doing it daily and strategize HOW you will do it daily. You will set yourself up for failure if you decide you’re going to do something but don’t also decide how you will implement it. Please share your smallest thing and strategy at www.facebook.com/QuietStormsCO.

For me, the most successful strategy for introducing a new habit in my life is to link it to something I already do every day. So, for example, I get dressed every day. Maybe I will hold my pen as soon as I’m dressed.

Some days you will want to do more of your art. Awesome! Go for it. Other days, even the thought of the tiniest action makes you want to hide. Acknowledge that & do the action anyway. Art is both sacred & mundane – and the mundane part is showing up. Let’s become people who show up to our art, to ourselves, daily.
