Author Anne Lamott discussed Radio KFKD (K-Fucked) in her excellent book ‘Bird by Bird‘. She describes it as the mental noise we hear when we sit to do our work. On one side, the songs of our specialness, uniqueness, humbleness. On the other, the cadences of self-hatred, every mean thing ever said to us that we believed, all our fears in full volume.
You can’t work with that noise in your head. And that’s its point. Steven Pressfield (The War of Art) would call it Resistance, and its sole purpose is to keep you from doing your work. Everybody experiences it. Some people find ways to get their work done anyway.
